The Short Answer
Our top pick is Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort in Orlando. Its Family Suites sleep up to six with two queen beds, a pull-out sofa and a kitchenette, and guests get Early Park Admission at Universal, so a family of five gets one room with space to spare.
- Disney World: the Walt Disney World Dolphin sets its rooms at two adults and three children and has Early Theme Park Entry. See our Disney World guide.
- A city break: Hotel Beacon in New York has a Double Suite for five with a kitchenette, and Citadines Trafalgar Square in London has two-bedroom apartments for six.
- Las Vegas: the Strip rooms we checked cap at four, so book a two-bedroom suite at Tuscany Suites, just off the Strip. See our Las Vegas guide.
Some chains make it easier than others. Drury Hotels allows five in a standard room; our hotel chains guide compares the brands.

What "Sleeps 5" Really Means
A room listed for five can mean very different things. Before you book, check which of these you're getting:
- Two big beds plus a sofa bed. A common setup in US suites, such as the Family Suites at Cabana Bay or the Mini-Suites at Park Place Inn.
- A rollaway or sleeper chair. Some rooms reach five only with a rollaway at an extra fee or a sleeper chair, which suits a small child better than a teenager.
- A baby in a crib. Some hotels count an infant as the fifth guest. The Bloomsbury Hotel in London takes two adults and three children only if the third child is under 2.
- An age limit. Radio City Apartments in New York takes four guests plus one child 12 or under in its one-bedroom.
- Two connecting rooms. Some European "family rooms" for five are two connecting rooms rather than one, such as Hotel 34B in Paris or Hotel Lunetta in Rome.
One Room, a Suite or Two Bedrooms?
- One room for five is the simplest booking, and works best with younger kids. Look at the Walt Disney World Dolphin, the Loews hotels at Universal, or Drury Hotels.
- A suite with a sofa bed gives parents a separate space or a door to close. Most of our Disney World, Disneyland and San Diego picks are this type.
- A two-bedroom apartment or suite gives each part of the family its own room and often a kitchen. It's the usual answer in Las Vegas, London and Paris.
Our sister sites cover the other two routes: hotels with two-bedroom suites in more US destinations, and family suites at all-inclusive beach resorts.
